Trial Begins For Three Jamaicans Facing Drug Charges In Cayman

The trial got underway on Wednesday for three Jamaicans arrested in Cayman for the importation of 313 pounds of ganja.   Assad Adana Walker, Fitzroy Ottey and Owen Omar Reid admitted their involvement with ganja.   However, they denied knowledge of a firearm, ammunition and cocaine found inside packages of the ganja.   Mr. Walker, who is from Westmoreland, has been convicted in Cayman twice previously for ganja related offences.   His co-accused are from Hanover.   The men were held on March 2, 2018.   They were reportedly seen aboard a boat and chased by the crew of a Joint Marine Unit.   Several packages which the men tried to dump overboard were recovered.   During a search of the packages, the ganja and a handgun with 49 rounds of ammunition were found.   Days later, while a chemist was examining the packages, pellets were found containing 101 grams of cocaine.    The chemist also found a plastic bag with 97 orange tablets that proved to be MDMA, also known as ecstasy.
